{ The World Or Nothing }

I haven't been holding up my end of the bargain. I have been working night and day on my final project and haven't left time to let you know whats going on. Sadly I still can't show you much. Either things are too far on and it would be best if I waited till it was all finished or its too early on and it will undoubtedly change. I remember reading an article about blogging a while back and the general gist was that young designers tend to put everything they do online and this showed a level of arrogance as well as indecisiveness. Because of this I will probably not be posting as often as I would like too but you will get "quality" posts over that quantity.

Im going to share a couple of small bites from the comic. These pieces are next to finished and will give you a taste where I'm coming from with the style and feel of the project. I hope you enjoy them.

Also I just reached 10,000 view to this blog. Thanks everyone who has taken an interest. It means a great deal.

{ The Final Semester }

The beginning of a new project is always daunting. Luckily I have a great idea that will really stand out against the other work iv produced this year. Im not going to go into the idea in detail until it has been finalised but it mainly a way to get children interested in physics. Iv always been really excited by physics and I don't feel that it is promoted well by schools. The idea came from the book A Graphic Cosmogony, that I picked up over the holidays. It is a collection of illustrator's mental takes on the creation of the universe. It is really worth a read.

I found this cover of Foster the People's song Pumped Up Kicks by Miracles of Modern Science the other day and it is amazing. Just thought id spread it about.

{ Relief And Printers }

The last few weeks have been bliss. I finished my essay, titled the Survival of Traditional Illustration in a Digital World, and submitted all of my course work. Im fairly satisfied with my grade and understand how I can improve on it for my final project.

My Semester One Work

On another note I have finally busted out our A3+ printer. We got it off a Gumtree type site just after the summer for 30 quid. It has a few things that need to be sorted out with it, like it messes up the magenta colour sometimes. I'm sure its nothing fatal. But this will be perfect for my plans for the final project and the degree show.

Our Beautiful Printer

I noticed that over the last few weeks I had gained a few more followers. Id just like to say thanks and let you all know that once semester two begins I shall be posting on here a few times a week on my progress and inspiration.

{ The Folio Society and House Of Illustration Competition }

It is almost New Year and I have finished my first degree project. "Project Two" was based around a competition of our choosing. I chose The Folio Societies "The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories" illustration competition. These three illustrations are for the following books.

The Bloody Chamber

The Company of Wolves

 Puss-In-Boots

All of the illustrations were produced solely with print making techniques and then screen printed. The prints didn't work out as planned so I merged the screen prints with the original illustration digitally to allow for the texture of the screen print with the clarity of the original illustration. I still need to complete a mock up binding for the competition then I will send it of.

I hope you all had a great Christmas and have a lively New Year.

{ Been Doing Some Stuff }

Well its about no when my project should be rounding up and to be honest I got a bit lost. So while I try and sort my life out I thought id put up some images of what iv been working on. Neither of these will appear in the book I just though id just put them up to let you see where I am heading with the imagery.

This is the front of a flat just down from mine.

 I then scanned it in and added a monotone pallet to it. The idea is is that the characters and main objects will be in colour, thus making them stand out against the backdrop.

This is a street just along from my flat also. I was trying to capture the bus stop and have that as a main object that the child would be trying to reach for.

And this is it with the monotone layer.
